Our strategy for this week is "Connect Two". This strategy will help students become familiar with difficult key vocabulary before reading text or it can be used before a unit of study.
As the year winds down, and you need something for an easy formal assessment why not give Quick-Writes a try. It is a way for students to respond in writing a brief reflection about key ideas and details. This strategy can be used before, during, or after a reading/video/activity.
It sounds simple, but students must read the text/video and be able to determine the gist of what they read/viewed. The discussion that follows will leads to deep understanding.
Do you have students who like to draw? Looking for a different way to access comprehension? Give "Sketch to Stretch" a try. The science example in the explanation can be modified to be relevant in any content area. The directions are quick, easy and no prep on your part.
